The program is tailor-made for the particular challenges educational NGOs are facing in countries all over the world. Their students often have little educational or professional experience, and they face implementation difficulties when it comes to modernizing their educational offerings—like a lack of technological infrastructure.
“In Rwanda, students are pushed to work at young ages to help support their families. NGOs like Sangira help them by supporting their educational development and improving their chances to get a job.”
Patrick Diethelm, Head Culinary Excellence, Global Swiss Learning
Here's how the program works:
Part 1) 100 hrs theory + 90 hrs cooking
- The program targets participants just starting out their career, with little to no practical experience and limited schooling.
- The goal is that they understand the basics of working in a kitchen, the fundamentals of food and how to implement recipes.
- After completing their internship in a professional kitchen, participants can work as a kitchen assistant.
Part 2) 80 hrs theory + 80 hrs cooking
- Available only after completing the first part.
- Participants will work through more recipes and build an understanding of important topics, like meat, fish and desserts.
- Upon completion, participants can apply for a commis position and assist in any department in a professional kitchen.
**The program will be rolled out to additional NGOs in Cambodia, and other NGOs in Africa and Asia.
Sangira's management weighs in:
" There are several reasons why we have selected GSL as our educational provider. Quality of educational content: The entire course is based on the fundamentals of classical cuisine, which hold worldwide validity. Practice-oriented and engaging courses: The various online tools are very practical, featuring videos, Q&A, and tests for each topic. Well-thought-out curriculum with clear outcomes: The course content aligns exactly with the requirements of the Swiss culinary apprenticeship with a federal diploma. With this qualification on their resume, students have a significant competitive advantage when applying for jobs."
Jackie H., NGO Manager, Friends of Rwanda
